SA Strategic Plan

Briefly, the SA Strategic Plan - has six objectives :

  1. Growing Prosperity
  2. Improving Wellbeing
  3. Attaining Sustainability
  4. Fostering Creativity
  5. Building Communities
  6. Expanding Opportunity

Here's what the State Plan website says ... "South Australia’s Strategic Plan draws together the hopes and aspirations of South Australians, and maps out a comprehensive path to the future. The Plan is a blueprint for our prosperity and wellbeing, to deliver a society where health, equality, safety, enterprise and creativity underpin a quality of life that is the envy of the world. It is our plan for the best."

Strategic Plans are not only prepared by the state government but also by local governments as required in accordance with section 122 of the Local Government Act 1999. Periodic reviews are also required to be undertaken, generally every 5 years. Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council Strategic Plan 2008-2012 is a relatively brief and succinct document. Prior to its acceptance I prepared a brief submission in 2007 on the draft Strategic Plan. I wanted greater focus on sustainability, performance measurement, and environmental accountability. Six GOALS form the Strategic Plan - Asset & Enterprise Management; Leadership & Communication; Environment; Finance, Community, Culture & Recreation; Economic Development.

Although the "Environment" goal contains just five strategies, there are fourteen actions. The real concern is that the actions will not be carried through. We will have to wait and see.
